option有四种open/close call option, open/close put option.

But option and stock are traded at different exchange, how do you know whether it's open/close ? or if I long 100 csco, and short 200 csco put, then I sell my 100 csco put, is that open or close ?

for example:
I hold PMCS 1000 shares, so I can sell 10 covered calls against my holdings. On the other hand, you can sell call or put without any underlying shares, those are called naked call or naked put. They are too risky.
Open, may simply mean to open a position.
Close, may simply mean to close a position.
Really confusion, I may be wrong. The option that I play are simple ones:
buy call
buy put
sell covered call
sell covered put

Unless you have millions of excess money, never buy and hold as an individual investor. The ones control the stock market are institutions. They can easily drive the market down or up by any excuse.Good news can be interpreted as bad or the other way round. It all depends on their needs. Merrill Lynch alone holds about 15% of total Wall Street investment. Those big guys often bundle together, upgrade or downgrade a stock based on their interests. Small investors are being trapped once and again. Buy and sell often may be best for us at least in the current market situation.
