You are wrong, both NT and LU lack of cash. NT just borrow some money by selling its new bond. Although this way can bring it some cash, but its loan is really huge now.Don't touch NT and LU if you are not a day trader. The are the worst one among all telecom suppliers.

Tens of million cash is nothing for a big company like NT and LU. Do you know NT's debt is in billion level? How could you say that NT's cash> its debt?

直接去Nortel.com看它的report不就行了嘛。NT还有48亿的现金（六月底），不过它半年的净现金流是负15亿。考虑到它可以layoff，一年内是破不了产的。

I doubt it. If the slump last for another half year, Nortel could go bankrupt unless the government injects money, which is possible.

I don't believe the government could stand by NT. Csco has more than 10 billion cash in hand. It could the most likely rescuer to NT. Otherwise, outsourcing NT's optical department may do some help to its survivior.

Not much optical department left. I can't see any reason why CSCO want NT. For optical, CIENA seems more attractive. However, NT is kind of likeflagship in Canada. I can harly imagine that canadian government would let it sink like that. When NT was BNR, it was said 30% of operation fees come from government. So it is not undoable. Just a wild guess though.

想知道的话，可以参考NT的prefered share 的yield。现在大概是21%。正常的公司是5%-7%之间，你可以衡量的。

谢谢各位DX的热心指教! 同时也感到很沮丧, 各位DX的不少专业名词我都不太明白, 比如prefered share 的yield, 还有现金和债务的关系(好像这里有钱也不用先还债), 看来要成为门内汉还有很高的门槛要爬, ：）
