not AF-S ...... only if you are sure you wont be using it on a entry level body ..... kids cost a lot of money, you know .....

感觉镜头比机身保值多了,也不是发烧人士,只想片子好点儿。

do not worry about it, sometimes I lost my point when I speak. too bad. just want to get some suggestion for a fix lens to be used on a new born. which would be no flash, moving object. so, large maximum apertures and auto-focus is my concern.also, I want to explain my comments to your answer, af-s is a good choice. and I believe invest on lens is better than camera. but also, I don't think gear is such a important factor. just because what I have right now is way better than lots of professional photographers' 20 years ago. but .... no words.

以本人的个人经历来说,一般是先升级镜头,后升级机身,而且只有像素翻几番的情况下才会考虑升级机身。

your body has the build in motor, so either 50/1.4D or 85/1.8D will work out. but the used one costs $300. if your budget is tight. go for the 50/1.8D. For those lenses, you can even use the wide open, no step down needed in some extreme low-light scene.

never be 100% comfortable with 2nd hand one, if something wrong with it and you find out after 6 months and ..., how about 50 1.4d af $294 and 50 1.4g af-s is $419. too hard to choice. does the silentwave worth it? or some other differences?

d serial has aperture ring, but normally I set the aperture with my camera, does the ring overwrite the camera setting? no idea.

no, you have to set the aperture to its minimum before you mount it on the body.

huge price diff between 1.4d and 1.8d on 50 mm, I can afford 1.4d if the advantage is good enough. what's the big diff?

well, new or used, it is your choice. The major difference between D and G type lenses is the AF motor, plus the number of blades, filter size and lens coat, and the PRICE. I personally prefer the D lenses more.
