14mm is a bit too wide and too much distortion for portrait shot although it can be used to achieve some interesting effects. and f/2.8 isn't fast enough for indoor in my opinion. i'd go for f/1.8 at the very least -genjurok(Genjuro); 2011-8-2 (#6830020@0)

+1 On crop camera like 7D, 35L and sigma 30 are both great. I actually prefer 30 since it's a bit wider and more flexible. Make sure you check focus acuracy when you buy it. I'm lucky with my copy but heard bad stories from others. -genjurok(Genjuro); 2011-8-2 (#6830032@0)

alrite, there is only one that fits your requirement : wide enough and still ok for portrait. 24L (24 f/1.4), equivalent to 38mm on FF, but still quite easy to have your subject distorted if placed at the corner. -genjurok(Genjuro); 2011-8-2 (#6830179@0)

both are useful. i'd get a 1.4 lens first, since you can't use flash all the time, sometimes it's just not approriate. however flash is absolutely necessary if you want to become a better photographer. -genjurok(Genjuro); 2011-8-5 (#6835594@0)

get the sigma 30 1.4, plenty on craigslist for $400 or so, with tons of warrany, 8 years or more. then sell your 50. once I got the 30,the 50 was never used anymore. if i were you, i'd just RUN to get the sigma 30. by far my favorite indoor lens on 7D. -genjurok(Genjuro); 2011-8-5 (#6836115@0)
