No need to buy Rebel 2000, it is a crap. Canon S30/Nikon CP995 take excellent travelling photo, buy a 256mb memory card, and you can keep shooting for days.

Digicam is almost as good as traditional cam. They are just too expensive, Canon D60 us$2000, Nikon D1x $3000+.

Depends on what you want from the camera. If you just want to take snapshot on your trips, P&S is good enough. If you are serious about photography, find something better than Rebel2000.

Well, actually it's the first time I go to US, therefore not too many ideas yet. But I did plan to rent a Van/SUV to travel around NYC, Washington DC, Atlantic City, Huston...... Is that good enough?

Not "Huston", should be Boston, right? It is good idea to rent a cool SUV (definitely not Minivan), I am sure some MMs would be interested:) For first timer, you better find some partners.

Even driving by yourself is not too bad. I did that in Feb., all the way to NYC, by myself. Only problem was, I had to take a nap every 2 hours, otherwise I fell sleep on the wheel as nobody to talk to:(
