don't buy it if you're a newbie coz you don't know what you'll shoot and what you'll need. the 70-300 lens is a NO-NO without VR, battery grip/extra battery is a gimmick which you may never need. falsh is useful only if you need it.

make sure you buy things that you need, avoid buying tons of stuff just because it's cheap. get any decent DSLR with kit lens, like D90/18-105 VR, or 500D/18-55IS/55-250IS, go and shoot, from there, you'll know what you'll need most and add more gears

i bought brand new 450D/18-55IS/55-250IS from futureshop in 2008 for $900 after tax, you should be able to find 500D/18-55IS/55-250IS at a similar price if you're patient, the 55-250 IS is better value than 70-300 without VR for sure
