you need check with the court where the hearing held. Some courts don't accept writeen statement. They can subpoena you and you need to serve it. They should pay you fees.

to my limited knowledge, if you have accept the letter, you need to go. You could have refused to take the letter. I am sorry I don't know what would be the best move. It may be fine since you already talked. The other part will now anyway.

you can explain to court persuading them that you are not suitable being a witness, if you have a good reason. You cannot ignore it, then you would be punished for civil contempt.
