usually you could ask them for several checks without your name&addr from CIBC.But I found that all chinese bank tellers in CIBC rejected clients request, on the other hand, the other ethnic tellers are very nice.
From TD, you could get a check book (25 pieces) free when you open your account.
Those are years ago, I am not sure what is their rule now.

我开帐号的时候才奇怪呢：我开了一美元的，一加元的，然后买了100张加元的支票，结果寄来的时候居然又送了我100张美元的，可开的时候没跟我提起可以送支票的说法，现在也懒得理它
