S1's movie mode is better S500 also. But I don't like S1's battery, it doesn't use propertiy lion battery.

I have no interest in making movie through my camera, what I really concern is about the pictures I get from the machine.With a almost the same price, will the Powershot G5 be the best buy? Any opinion is greatly appreciated!

IMO, G5 is semi-professional camera. If you like spend time on studying how to use it, of course it is better choice than S500, given the same price.
