Not necessary! Arrive airport at least 1and half hour earlier than departure time. check in at the counter with your passport.

Northwest have more chances to upgrade the class free. If you have the Gold card or silver card, chances are at the airport you are notified to change the seat of the e-pass to upgrade to the business class.
