不是你说的那样。一般6年评审的时候给tenure同时升为associate professor。
tenured不需要成为professor.

They may show their value by conducting and publishing research or receiving high ratings from students. Tenured professors have more job security. They may also have the option to take personal leave to conduct research projects.

我的意思是他已经拿到终身教职，是个拿到终身教职的副教授，已经是铁饭碗了。如果他愿意，可以干到退休，实际上大学很多人就一直干副教授到退休的。他的辞职不是因为他没拿到终身职位，可能是别的什么原因
你猜他是因为没拿到铁饭碗才离开是不合理的猜测
一个人没拿到tenured是不可能呆15年的，第6年底就得卷铺盖卷

只有6年合同期限的一般是assistant professor, associate professor 没有期限，但只要没升到full professor, 都没有job security, 当然也可以一直做associate professor 到退休，只要大学需要你

只要升到Associate同时就是tenured、是铁饭碗了。大学这个评审委员会就叫tenure & promotion committee、tenure和associate是同时获得的，associate就有job security了6年没有tenure的必须走人，不可能大学需要你就继续呆着，能留下的都是tenured，有job security的
