I'm sorry to hear that,就说最近上英语科时学的"某经理在一职员敲门进入他办公室时还打电话,放下电话时随口说的Sorry about that".

Excuse me, (used as a polite expression, as when addressing a stranger, when INTERUPTING or disagreeing with someone, or to request repetition of what has just been said.)
Don't agree. The person should be saying sorry not excuse me. I understand that you looked it up in the dictionary, however, in that situation, saying "sorry" is appropriate, not "excuse me."

如果不是我们的错时,我们被教导说:i am sorry for how u feel.
i am sorry for what happened to you.
i am sorry that is causing inconvienence for you. blah blah...
do romes do when in rome lah....

Great examples! Still, "sorry" can mean in a number of ways. 1. feeling regret and pity; 2. feeling sorrow and compassion; 3. conventional apology or expression of regret. Also, to be more exact, it should be "When in Rome, do as the Romans do".
Should such a good opinion be honed with better factual accuracy, your well-meant guidance might be borne in mind.
