I agree with you that English, for most of us, is like a vehicle, a means to get us to the right place. It is from this understanding that I sincerely believe pronunciation is importance for effective communication, whether in team meeting or in board room. Even in daily life, I would like to talk to a native speaker rather than someone in India for customer help. It is not because I have some bias on Indians, but only because I find it hard to understand them.
We all speak from our own experiences. Maybe you have seen Chinese coworkers who are too self-conscious and try all means to speak English meticulously. And that’s why you have this response. From what I have observed, the effort to improve pronunciation is not too much but too little. I truly appreciate the input from goingconcern and would like to see more productive posts like this.
