I only have experience wiht Sony DV. But I think they are pretty much same.You need enable TV input first. It was named "TV input" in Sony menu system. Check your instruction manual to find it. If you never use it before, it's in default setting "off". Then you can set it to "video 1" or whatever setting per your instruction manual.
Connect one side of the A/V cable(supplied with your DV) to the A/V output terminals on your VCR or TV, and the other side to your DV. Turn on TV or VCR, as soon as you see the TV or VCR video on the build-in LCD on your DV, you can record it.

我用的是，不过没转过，好象ZR40没有这个功能。

ZR40肯定有这功能，这是我要这一款的原因。我可以在LCD上看到TV或VCR。就是不能Rec。不知为何？是不是tape必须是Blank才行呢？有点怪
