After being in Canada for 16+ years, I start to understand what "conservative" really means. I feel the Chinese translation as "保守“ is somehow not accurate as in Chinese "保守“ is somewhat 贬义。But the true meaning of "conservative" should be "传统主义“ as I agree to many policy ideas, such as harsh treatment to criminals, i.e minimum sentence term for serious crimes, objection to "大麻使用合法化", objection to irresponsible acceptance of "叙利亚难民“ and small government。I was once a die-hard liberals, but nowadays, I really feel "保守“ is my only choice and I also believe "保守主义“ matches most of Chinese traditional culture.
