If the old caulking started to peel off or crack, you might be better off recaulk the whole bathtub. Check out the DIY video linked here. You can use your finger or damp cloth to wipe the excess caulk off.
It's called sillicon, you have to clean the old one thoroughly before putting new one, with different colors
