The avid gardener has some advice for people who love the beautiful but temperamental flowers but can't seem to succeed in growing them: buy the plant in a pot.
“Cut the bottom of the pot gently and ease the plant into the pit, only after you cover it with soil should you cut the sides off” he said. “Never disturb the roots.”
Every year, Ferreira adds a dozen or more new varieties to his already extensive collection. This year the roses in his garden are in bloom in an array of colours - crimson with tiny blushes of pink, red, pale pumpkin and others. Some are in their glory, while others are in the cusp of blooming.
“Roses should not be watered more than what is necessary,” he said. “Depending on your convenience, you can water them either during early mornings or late evenings.”
Ferreira admits he loves the anticipation of watching and waiting to see the plants bloom and transform within hours.
