As you may know, our team has heard the concerns of the community regarding the demands being asked of Loblaws for our upcoming boycott. In response, we polled the community to ensure we are capturing as many voices as possible. Thank you to the 800+ users who responded across our socials to weigh in on what they hope to accomplish with this boycott.
We would like to expand our demands as follows:
Immediate 15% price reduction
Signing the grocer code of conduct
No further retailer-led price increases for 2024
Increased cost transparency, and clearly identifying items which are subject to "shrinkflation"
A commitment to affordable pricing - price caps on essential goods
A commitment to end price gouging, with prices quickly reflective of current economic conditions (ie: when inflation and food inflation cools, prices should cool to go with that)
We further would like to call upon our elected officials to:
Make a commitment to increasing choice and healthy competition within the grocery industry
Implement price caps across the big 5 grocers
Legislate Loblaws and Walmart to sign the Grocer's Code of Conduct
Recognize affordable food as a basic human right, and take steps to protect said right
Please let us know in the comments if this is more aligned with your hopes for the boycott, and if there are any important points we have missed here. We want to ensure we are capturing as many folks' thoughts as possible.
Thank you for your continued support!
