Thanks for your advice. I really appreciate it. Some more...

Hi 竹节罐,
I guess you must be a doctor. If you work here in Canada, I would like to see you.
My surgical oncologist said that the liver metastses is now not resectional because there are cancer area on both left and right lope of the liver.
I did search all kinds of cancer web site. A few patient cases showed a little bit hope. Some did survive from Colon Cancer Stage D for 3 to 7 years with the treatment of of 5-FU and leucovorin. But I'm not sure how big the percentage is. I guess I 'm expecting a miracle. I really need some expert to convince me of this hope.
Besides, some chinese medician commercial also give me some hope (maybe false hope). For example:
癌症者救星陈陆基 专医各种癌症
癌症不是绝症 是可以治疗的!
铁证如山! 不信?
请看各鸣谢者的典句便明一切。
Have you ever heard of this? Any comment /advice are very welcome!

And many other herbal medician, how do I evaluate them and choose the right one if there were some good ones?

Thanks so much again!

  • 枫下家园 / 医药保健 / Does anyone want to share any treatment information about COLON CANCER? Chemotherapy? Radiation Therapy? Chinese traditional medicine? Thanks so much in advance! (I can read chinese, but can't type in though)
    • I don't know about Chinese traditional medicine, in terms of surgery/radiation/chemo, the choice of treatment modality depends on the stage of the disease
Colon cancers without lymphatic spread (Duke stage A and B) are often treated with surgery along. Chemotherapy is shown to improve survival for colon ca with positive lymph nodes but no distance metastasis (Duke stage C). Management for distance metastases (Duke stage D) is palliative, which may still include surgery for local control, and radiation/chemo. Radiation therapy is often used for Duke’s B and C rectal cancer. It is also used in palliative care for colon cases with distance metastases. I don't think it is widely used for treating primary colon cancer that's further proximal.
      • Thanks so much for your professional answer. I'm talking about Stage D with cancer metastases on liver. What treatment is more effective relatively? How bad the side effect will be?
        • If liver is the only site with metastasis and the liver lesion(s) is surgically removable together with the primary tumor, there is still a chance for cure or prolonging survival.
Also in that case, chemo agents may be directly infused into liver. If the metastases are more extensive, treatments are aimed to relief symptoms and their effectiveness would vary depending on the situation (eg surgery/radiation for local obstruction, chemo for lung mets...) Chemo is usually a combination of 5-FU and leucovorin for stage C, I'm not sure the exact combination used for stage D. If you would like to know more about the treatments and side effects, I suggest you go have a look at American Cancer Society's website.
