One day is quite short. May not be enough if you want to have a good tour. Here is the map and the plan for your reference.

1. It is cheap if you stay long. There is free shuttle bus to Niagara falls every 10 minutes, take about 2 minute to falls.

2.You can buy 'Niagara falls Pass' here. Which including taking shuttle bus to all over Falls place free, the ticket for 'Journey Behind Falls', ticket for 'Maid of mist'(must go), ticket for 'white water walk'(must go), ticket for 'butterfly valley'. It is $33 that save you more than $10 if you buy them seperately.
More than that, you get $2 discount for 'whirpool Car', free french fries at any fast food store in Niagara Falls, and many coupons ..., Last but least, you take 'priority door' that you don't need to wait on the long line at some resort.

that is my experience when I went there at second time. I really have a great day. But the first time, I felt almost nothing by parking my car on the Falls, and take a short look then heading to Niagara Falls on the Lake.
