Kidding me? That episode is in Godfather I, NOT II.

you are correct. I was wrong. I have always remembered that episode as part of Godfather II. I guess it might be because the tone of the idyllic Sicilian love story is so different from the rest of the movie. sorry.

That episode is my favourite, which humanized and normalized Michael as he was. I even felt that the fateful death of his first wife (though not necessarily his first love) was the ultimate motivation that turned him into the Godfather.

very interesting reading. I would agree with you for sure. it is very difficult to be Machael, for not only he has to make himself a killer, but also a killer with conscience, mercy, and most importantly, one who is capable of great love.

Kate was the one I most sympathized with, a tragic figure that eventually lost both her husband and her daughter, yet she still was not the ONE Michael authentically was in love with, cause his heart and passion was long gone with the wind in Sicily.

the problem with Kate is that she was too delicate for Michael's ambition and yet too idealistic for his passion. Michael's abandoning of Kate is a given.
